A Special Gift from a Grateful Family

Meet Ollie! Today is Ollie’s first birthday, and he and his parents, Ben and Mallory Sprague, stopped by Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center this morning to say thank you to the team in our Inpatient Pediatrics Department.

Ollie was readmitted to EMMC a few days after he was born with an infection. As Ben shared with us this morning, it was a scary time for his family, but he and Mallory are forever grateful for the care that their family received. They’re paying their gratitude forward by donating Ben’s City Council salary to the Patient Family Emergency Fund at the hospital. This fund is used to help support the families of kids who are in the pediatric unit, and the funds are used to help the family buy a meal in the cafeteria, help pay for a hotel room, or maybe buy a present for the child who is sick or even one for their brother or sister.

And, we at the hospital had a blast surprising the Sprague family as well. We love to celebrate birthdays so we made sure Ollie had a special first birthday cake, as well!

Thank you, Ben and Mallory, and happy birthday, Ollie!
