A Special Military Thank You

Every one loves a heartwarming story, and we’ve got one for you.

Three years ago, Mary Pelletier, one of our Pediatric social workers, took a leave of absence after being called for duty by the Air National Guard. Those weeks turned into months, which turned into years – three to be exact. While Mary was away she was part of a team caring for 1,500 military personnel, ensuring they were physically and medically ready to perform their duties.

She’s back today, and on June 19th, a group from the 101st Air Refueling Wing and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a partner organization which assists the military with various recognitions, awarded Mikele Neal, our nurse manager, a Patriot Award for her outstanding support. The plaque thanks Mikele and the team on Inpatient Pediatrics for their patience, allowing Mary the opportunity to serve her country for what turned into an extended period of time.

Mikele remarked, “We missed Mary a lot, and we are happy to welcome her back. It was my honor to support Mary while she was serving our country.”
