MacKenzie’s Miracles Kicks Off Summer Fundraising Events This Weekend

There is something truly special about kids who want to pay it forward. There is something special about MacKenzie. You may remember her as our local 2020 and 2021 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals champion child. MacKenzie and her family know all too well how important it is to have a children’s hospital nearby, and for this family, ‘nearby’ means 90 miles.

MacKenzie and her family call East Machias home. This 16-year old may not remember her stay in the neonatal intensive care unit, but her parents do. MacKenzie, who was born 12 weeks early, spent her first 100 days in the NICU. Her mom made the trip from their home almost every day – she’d get breakfast for big brother Jake and then head to Bangor to spend the day with MacKenzie before heading back home for dinner.

Since she’s been old enough, MacKenzie has wanted to give back. This is the third year that she is hosting MacKenzie’s Miracles. She’s set a goal to raise $3,000 this year, and she’ll kick off the fundraising this Saturday, August 6, when she hosts her second annual benefit yard sale. Stop by Machias Savings Bank in Machias to pick up some great finds, and even better, the proceeds will help MacKenzie fulfill her goal to help change kids’ health and change the future.

We also encourage you to join MacKenzie and the community for her third annual MacKenzie’s Miles for Miracles Bike Ride along the Down East Sunrise Trail. The ten-mile ride will take place on Saturday, August 27. It starts at 9 am behind Archibald’s One Stop in East Machias. To learn more, follow MacKenzie’s Miracles on Facebook.

MacKenzie, thank you for all you do to help kids, like you! You are a Miracle Maker in our eyes!
