Paddling for a Cure

What are you doing next Saturday? Free? Join us at Champion the Cure Challenge’s second annual Paddle event on the Penobscot River. Nichole and I will be in one of the war canoes, and we’re excited to see everyone who will be paddling for a Cure.

Did you know…
Champion the Cure Challenge raises critical funds for local cancer research and patient assistance. Since Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Lafayette Family Cancer Institute opened in Brewer ten years ago, our pediatric oncology patients have been able to participate in 29 cancer trials specific to childhood cancer.

And, this September, as we recognize National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the need for a cure is real, but so is the importance of more research focused on childhood cancers. There are far too many kids with bright smiles and brave faces battling some very scary diagnoses, and there are two facts that can’t be overlooked. One, the length of treatment for some childhood cancers is upwards of three to five years, and two, that’s more than 1,200 missed days to learn, explore, and play.
