State of the Art Care for the Tiniest Patients

Did you know that today is World Prematurity Day? It’s a day dedicated annually to raising awareness of preterm birth and the concerns of preterm babies and their families worldwide.

Eastern Maine Medical Center, one of our EMHS Foundation Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Bangor, is home to one of Maine’s two level 111 neonatal intensive care units. EMMC’s new neonatal intensive care unit opened in June 2016, and during the first year, the incredible team of five neonatologists, including Mark Brown, MD, chief of Pediatrics, Eastern Maine Medical Center, invaluable nurses, social workers, and some pretty amazing volunteers cared for 526 babies.

EMMC’s NICU was built with these tiny patients in mind by a community of donors, many who are Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals corporate partners, who knew how vitally important this resource was to the future of the greater Bangor region. Thank you to every one who played a role in opening the doors to EMMC’s new neonatal intensive care unit.
