Summer’s Story

The team in Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit care for more than 450 babies each year. Some of these babies are born critically ill, while others decided to surprise their parents with an early arrival. Summer, who will be seven months old on June 23rd, is one such baby.

Summer was born eleven weeks early on November 23rd. Her mom, Katie, calls her a little shopaholic since she was born on Black Friday. Summer spent 48 days in EMMC’s NICU before she was able to head home.

Here’s her mom’s story about the care Summer and the Mayo family received during the stay with us.
